Cephalopod Biology and Care – CBC is now a FELASA accredited course in laboratory animal science for EU Functions A/C/D

CBC is designed to comply the requirements of the “working document on the development of a common education and training framework to fulfill the requirements under the Directive 2010/63/EU” and FELASA recommendations for the accreditation of Education and Training courses in Laboratory Animal Science.

CBC 2017 - Cephalopod Biology & Care: for the increase of animal welfare and to facilitate the use of minimally-invasive techniques

The FA1301 Training School CBC 2017 “Cephalopod Biology and Care: : for the increase of animal welfare and to facilitate the use of minimally-invasive techniques” is open to people who perform the four functions, as stated in article 23 of the Directive 2010/63/EU: carrying out procedures on animals; designing procedures and projects; taking care of animals; killing animals. CBC 2017 is designed following FELASA recommendations for the accreditation of Education and Training courses in Laboratory Animal Science.
FA1301 Training School ‘Anesthesia and Scientific Procedures’ - CBC-ASP2016

The FA1301 Training School CBC-ASP2016 “Cephalopod Biology and Care: Anesthesia and Scientific Procedures” will deal with best practice in experimental procedures with and without anaesthesia to be used with cephalopods also in compliance with the requirements of Directive 2010/63/EU. The Training School is part of the Cephalopod Biology and Care Training Program, initiated in 2014 under the aegis of the COST Action FA1301. CBC-ASP2016 marks the third event of the Program and represents the first operating course exclusively designed for the cephalopod molluscs in compliance with the requirements of the “working document on the development of a common education and training framework to fulfill the requirements under the Directive 2010/63/EU”
CBC2015 – FA1301 Training School ‘Cephalopod Biology and Care’, second edition

The FA1301 Cephs Biology and Care (CBC2015) Training School is part of the Cephalopod Biology and Care Training Program, initiated in 2014 under the aegis of the COST Action FA1301. CBC2015 represents the first operating course specifically (and exclusively) designed for the cephalopod molluscs in compliance with the requirements of the “working document on the development of a common education and training framework to fulfill the requirements under the Directive 2010/63/EU” and “FELASA recommendations for the accreditation of Education and Training courses in Laboratory Animal Science”

The FA1301 Training School deliver advanced training on the biology, physiology and best practice in husbandry, maintenance and care of cephalopods.

About Training Schools

Training Schools are COST Action tools aimed at widening the knowledge of the Action activities, providing intensive training on a new and emerging subject and offering familiarization with unique equipment or know-how in one of the laboratories/facilities of the Action.

Training Schools are organized by a COST Action on related research topics and provide dissemination opportunities for an Action’s activities.

COST Actions share knowledge and support collaboration also through Training Schools.

Training Schools provide intensive training in emerging research topics within the laboratories and organisations involved in the COST Action.

Participants of Training Schools (i.e. Trainees) are mainly, but not exclusively, young researchers involved in COST Actions. A Training School can also take the form of an Early Stage Researchers (less than PhD + 8 years) network created as a “think tank”. Training Schools also cover appropriate re-training as part of life-long learning.

How COST supports Training Schools

COST support covers organisation of the school and participation support to both trainers (including external experts) and trainees. COST supports Trainees as entitled to receive a fixed financial contribution (in the form of a Trainee Grant), determined by the COST Action for each TS.

Trainee Grants do not necessarily cover all expenses related to attending the Training School. The Trainee Grant is to be considered a contribution to the overall travel, accommodation and meal expenses of the Grantee. The Grant is assigned to selected Trainees on the basis of established criteria.

According to COST rules, the following general provisions apply for a Training School:

A ratio of at least 3 trainees to 1 trainer should be respected unless justified;

Training Schools should last between a minimum of 3 days and a maximum of 15 days;

Training School must be held in a Participating COST country or in NNC institutions;

No lecture fees can be paid to Trainers;

A reasonable country balance should be respected concerning the Trainees.
